The name given to the tight trousers worn by some Regency gentlemen, such as the notorious Beau Brummell and his ‘dandy’ followers, as they showed off their leg muscles.
A Job to support the Judge!
The Judge’s Lodging in the heart of Presteigne has always brought visitors to the community, and has also benefited from the community for years. Now more than ever there are a core of fantastic people who organise various events and activities for this marvellous Grade II* listed building.
Volunteers prepare for a coffee morning
Gaby Rivers, Museum Development Manager said “Like many heritage attractions we can’t survive without our wonderful volunteers.” she went on to explain “We’ve had some people with us since we re-opened the doors to the Shire Hall twenty years ago. Their knowledge and passion for the museum adds hugely to the attraction of the Shire Hall”.
As the years have progressed, others have joined the committed team, including a group of volunteers who enthusiastically look after the local history collection, after the Heritage Lottery Fund helped the museum expand its community work a few years ago.
The Judge’s Lodging announced at the beginning of March that they had successfully secured the first HLF Resilient Heritage grant in Wales. This £86,600 award allows for the development of the museum, and within this the key support from the community. Ms Rivers explained that “the grant is there to ensure that we can keep opening the doors. To do that we need more staff time, from paid staff and voluntary staff. It’s now really exciting to be recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator for the Judge’s Lodging”.
This new role for the museum will be important for the future of the museum, in supporting the current volunteers, and developing more support. Details of this exciting role can got by calling the museum on 01544 260650.
