Radnorshire Constabulary at War

Great War - Mini Exhibition

Radnorshire Constabulary group

As part of our ongoing project to collect and research the impact of World War One on Presteigne, our second mini exhibition focuses on the effect of the Great War on the Radnorshire Contabulary.

Despite exemption from service, in 1915 Chief Constable Bromfield enlisted to fight, joined by five of his constables. Come and find out their tale and the effects it had on the police force they left behind.

Admission to this is free.

Strange But True

  • list arrowHow did Victorians try out a new invention?

Test it on the servants of course! That's what happened in 1860 at The Judge's Lodging, when gas lighting was put into the basement and not the Judge's rooms. They wanted to see if they got sick from the fumes. The servants were fine - that's why we got the lights working again.
