Judge's Lodging achieves Museum Accreditation

January 2007

The Judge's Lodging in Presteigne has just been officially 'Accredited' by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). It is the first museum in Radnorshire, and one of only a handful of Independent museums across the country, to have so far achieved this status. The Museum Accrediation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for all museums in the UK. To meet the requirements of the scheme, museums must demonstrate that they achieve clearly defined standards relating to governance and management, user services, visitor services and collections management. The Judge's Lodging's award proves that it measures up in all of these areas.

Mark Wood, Chair of MLA said: "Being awarded Accrediation is an impressive achievement. It recognises the high standard and service that The Judge's Lodging provides and acknowledges the hard work of the staff. Many congratulations!" Gabrielle Rivers, who has been manager & curator of the Judge's Lodging since it opened in 1997 is delighted with the results: " The Accreditation scheme is very important for museums in Britain. It allows senior museum people from outside your organisation to assess your work and show you and everyone else that you reach high standards in what you do. We are delighted to have achieved this status and I would like to thank all my staff for their help towards it".
